2021 recap: 4 Things I did for myself

Hey!!! By now, you’re probably taken some time to reflect on 2021, and all the should’ve, could’ve, or would’ve. While 2021 was good to me on the simple fact, God blessed me to see this year in good health with my family. I also adopted some new patterns that I will continue to take with me in 2022. I’m listing four things I’ve done this year that played such an essential role in my personal development.

Made room for grace-
Man! When I tell you, this was one that I had to work through it ultimately. My brain would feel like I had so many tabs open but yet I wasn’t accomplishing anything. There were times where I felt like I came up short as a Christian, wife, mom, etc. I was stretched then and would feel bad when I couldn’t show up how I wanted to. Sometimes you can’t, and this is perfectly fine. You don’t have to explain to anybody but yourself. Please repeat after me: It will be OKAY!!!

Embrace change-
Whew, chile! This is the one here! 2021 I started comfortably. I was finally at a place within my career where I wanted to be (so I thought). My new baby was somewhat getting on a sleep pattern. I mean, my little world was okay. Then the news came in late January; my previous employer was laying off all 1700 folks within the department. I heard the news, and my heart was shattered. Here I am adding additional mouth to feed, and I’m on the verge of losing my good-paying work from home job. BUT GOD!!! Two months later, he blessed me with a new company, same job duty but with more money. I will admit that it was a real struggle because I still stuck to everything that happened at the previous job that I was missing out on the joy of my current job. Fast forward to today. I love working at my current company. Things might not always go as planned, but I appreciate the journey.

Prioritized me-
Let my husband tell it, I never had a problem doing this according to our bank statements, lol. On a serious note, this was huge for me, and I’m not talking about monetary wise. This year I made it a point to have monthly facials, pedicures, or simple Sephora runs to see what new products are out. I love my family, but I also love my solitude. In 2022 don’t forget to make time for yourself at least once a week, and it doesn’t have to be luxury over the top.

While you may not have 2022 written down and figured out, that’s okay. Take the first couple of weeks in January and think about what you want to accomplish first, spiritually and mentally, and everything else will be aligned. Cheers to an amazing 2022!
